It was about ten after 8 and now I was running a few minutes late. I had to quickly fold up her chair to put it into the van. It was a real muggy morning so I went to turn on the van to get the AC running. Well, here is the first thing of many to go wrong. The van wouldn't start. The more I tried the deader the van became. On the dash the computer was telling me the "Starter disabled." What the heck does that mean?? I called Craig (for moral support mind you) and his reply was, "What can I do 1000 of miles away." I know he couldn't do anything, but I didn't know who else to call. I do feel bad too for Craig because he was knee deep in alligators at work this morning. I guess my timing was not the best. I quickly got the wheel chair into the trunk of the Hyundai and off I went.
When I arrived at the mobility center it was 8:25. I got the wheel chair out and put it all together. Then I wheeled it to the front door and to my surprise they were closed! The sign said they would be open at 9. My head was starting to boil. I went back to the car, took the chair apart and put it back into the car. I figured at this time I could drive to Jessie's new school and register her. Good thing the new school was right around the corner from the mobility store. I got to the school and signed Jessie up for 6th grade.
I finished registering Jessie and drove right back to the mobility store. I was there about 30 minutes and they were able to fix her chair. It's as good as new. On my way back home I stopped and picked up soda's for the kids. I drove everything back home. I tried to start the van again and it still wouldn't start. I didn't have time to mess with it. At this time it was about 10:30 and I needed to get to work. I told my boss that I wouldn't be any later than 11:00. I finally arrived at work, I had some paperwork to do before I started to see patients by 1:00.
About 11:30 or so my cell phone was ringing like crazy. I answered it and the kids were upset. Ashlee was telling me that Preston stabbed the stove. At first I heard stab..and began to think who in the heck did he stab? My heart sank. Ashlee went on telling me she was doing her hair and she saw the lights flicker. She then heard Preston screaming help! Both her and Cody ran into see what was going on. They saw smoke coming from the stove. They saw that Preston stabbed the back with a knife. (Our stove isn't behind a wall and it's to hard to explain why. Just trust me he stabbed the back of our stove.)
Here is what it looks like... As you can see it melted
We are so blessed the handle was wooden. I can only imagine what really could have happened. Preston could have been shocked and seriously hurt or even death. Not only that the stove could have caught fire and spreed to the rest of the kitchen.
I asked Preston what he was doing. He said he just wanted to see what would happen. He said there were sparks everywhere and it really scared him. I guess he found out the hard way. He told me he will never play with knives again. He better not if he knows what is good for him.
Do you now know why I call him Curious George? I have heard what a curious child Craig was when he was little. So when I have times like these, I think why should I have to live through them? Craig should have too? ;o). I also think, why do things like this have to happen when Craig is out of town? Every time he goes out of town I am challenged. Not sure how I weather these storms, but some how I do. Or I begin to think I must not be learning how to weather the storms because they keep reappearing. Oh well, I am indeed grateful that it wasn't even worse than what it could have been.
By the way I had Jamie, my brother, come over to see how much damage there was to the stove. Preston must have shorted the front right burner. I guess have to call the repair man to fix it.
All I can say is Craig hurry home so you can shelter me from the storms!

Of course these things only happen when the men are away. I feel your pain. So glad everyone is alright.
All I can say is I'm sorry, and I know what you are going through!
